Marcus Freeman
Marcus Freeman makes large abstract paintings in oil on linen. Each surface is built in layers: paint dragged across the canvas, scraped back and laid down again, until the painting holds a depth that can't be reached in a single pass. The work begins at two metres and is made to be lived with at that scale.
Commissions
Much of the studio's work is made to commission. It starts with a conversation about the room: the wall, the light, what is already there. Marcus then proposes a size and palette and paints the work over 8–12 weeks, sharing progress along the way. Every painting is a one-off, signed, and delivered with a certificate of authenticity. The studio ships worldwide.

A painting at two metres behaves differently from one at sixty centimetres. It stops being an object on the wall and becomes part of the architecture: something you walk past, stand in front of, and see differently as the light moves through the day. That is why the studio works only at this size.
